Scottish Ski Club Insurance
Membership of the Scottish Ski Club means that when skiing you are covered by Personal Liability Insurance which is administered by Snowsport Scotland. This will cover you if you do something which results in an accident to someone else. It also means that if someone should ski into you and injure you, you may receive compensation. This insurance will cover you wherever you ski, in Scotland, Europe or anywhere else. This is not a holiday insurance to cover medical expenses, theft of luggage etc. This insurance is essential on all skiing holidays abroad. You may opt for the cover provided by your travel company but this will often not be the least expensive and, more importantly, may not provide the cover you require. This could be because it has unacceptable restrictions (for example in relation to off-piste skiing) or has inadequate cover (for example the upper limit on stolen equipment) or covers only a single trip. The Club is aware of two policy arrangements which it believes should suit most members, although the onus remains with the policy holder to check that the cover is what is required.
Snowsport Scotland's policies are now arranged through Bruce Stevenson Risk Management Ltd (contact 0131 553 2293, or e-mail to admin@brucestevenson.co.uk, or visit www.brucestevenson.co.uk. They offer individual, couple, and family policies, from £29 for one week of individual cover, up to £120 for annual family cover, both worldwide. Racing and cross country skiing are covered, there are no restrictions on off-piste skiing and the equipment cover is much higher than is usual, but there is an upper age limit of 65 years on the standard policy. Terms can be arranged for older skiers.
