CAIRNGORM RACE TRAINING PROGRAMME 2010

This years weekend training on Cairngorm commences on Saturday 16th January for ten weekends. A flexible programme will again be offered for those wishing to train on both Saturday and Sunday or for those wishing to train on Saturday only or Sunday only. If you can not make it to training every weekend, then we can accommodate this as well, although we would ask that you give us as much notice as possible of the dates that you intend training so that we can organise the groups efficiently. Training is open to SSC members only and membership application forms are available for downloading from the Home page. Application forms for the Cairngorm training programme will be available for downloading from this page soon.

SSC's Cairngorm training is focused firmly on racing. Gate training and fitness are an integral part of our programme. We intend having race training groups for Bairns over 8 years of age; a Children 1 group and a combined Children 2 & Juniors group as a minimum. If early season snow permits, we will be running informal training days on Cairngorm Mountain in December. Please check out the "Coaching Announcements" forum for details of these early-bird days.

The SSC Club Hut has recently benefited from a kindly donated TV which was installed over the summer. Coaches will be using this for playing back video footage for analysis. We will also be playing DVD's of World Cup ski races from Eurosport. As per last year, bacon rolls, tea and coffee will be on offer too. This proved very popular last season! There is now a very healthy social scene for parents in the club hut, so lone skiing parents and non skiers need not feel left out! Indeed, parents getting involved during break times forms an integral part of the success of the training programme.

SSC organises the Easter FAST Camp to the British Children's Champs and it provides coaches to the FAST Programme. Racers are encouraged to make use of these camps. Please see the links on this web site for details of these Alpine Camps. This season we also intend running a mid-term break training camp in February on Cairngorm. Details for this will be progressed in January at the start of the weekend programme once we have notes of interest from those trainees who are interested in taking part.

If you require any further details on the Cairngorm programme prior to the application forms being posted, please e-mail Head Coach Craig Lamont on racetraining@scottishskiclub.org.uk

Lochaber Section Training - 2010

After a successful ski club sale on the 14th November and some fresh snow on the hill at Nevis Range we are, once again, looking forward to the winter season. The gondola is presently having its annual maintenance and will be open again for business on the 19th December.

The format for the ski club training remains the same for the 2010 season. The trainees are enjoying the later starts and it means the club members who do have to travel do not have to leave home at 5 o’clock in the morning. Parents also seem to appreciate the 1230 start and then the 3 hours to go off and ski for themselves.

The training is due to start on the 16th or 17th January and Nevis Range has been asked to make sure the weather is kind and the snow is there. The emphasis in Lochaber has always been mainly towards the recreational skier although the top groups also have gate sessions. All the groups have regular video sessions with feedback in the club hut at the end of the day. Given the right snow conditions there will be an “open” gate session before training starts in the morning and anyone from the groups who wishes to run gates can join in. There will be some coaching during these sessions and we hope to develop them in the future depending on how busy they are.

The snowboard group has also begun to increase in size and the 6 trainees last year enjoyed several great sessions in the park at the end of the season.

So get into the loft and the garage. Get those skis and boards edged and waxed and keep your fingers crossed for another good snow year.
